Ha! My husband would say that I never stop talking to myself! …or the rat (dog)…or the plants…the light switch…the dust…really, to anything that can’t run away!
This "oldie" is great ! (would have been fun too !) It is wonderful to see that your stitching is the same as your drawing, just with a needle in your hand instead of a pencil / pen !!! <3
Jude~ Mmm? Do I talk to myself? I think so, sometimes. But, it is more of a 'tracking' & reminding or remembering kind of conversation, which encourages me to slow down and pay attention to what I'm doing. "Car is locked" - so I don't have to walk all the way back out because I've forgotten if I've done so. haha
And I talk to the birds and lizards an all other critters on our walks. I greet them like the old friends I feel them to be and I want them to know me. Crows and Owls do remember faces. I want them to see/hear/know me as a safe friend.
Loved watching you draw (think). You reminded me how I loved to watch my daughter draw when she was school age...I could see her wheels turning by the choices she made and was always amazed at how lines & marks that looked like "nothing" would magically come together to be an amazing drawing. A treasured memory.
I'm constantly talking to myself; it helps me to figure out things, to remember, to keep myself company. I talk to the cats, the spiders I catch and release, the squirrels and any other plant or critter that crosses my path. I have read that sound waves go on forever -- an interesting thought that somewhere out in space are all our conversations.
This morning, I bought some Kalanchoe plants, love their tiny bursting colorful blooms, I have a yellow one outdoors and indoors, they are coral and yellow. I talked to them on my way home, I talk to all of my plants, the seeds I plant in the ground, nearby trees, the birds that sing me awake, the lizards that do a quick dance, and mostly, I talk to myself, engaging in a morning conversation every day. I like connecting with what has been stirring in my head and heart over night and giving words to those stirrings when I get up. So of course, the kalanchoe "talked back" because I did a little more research, after I got home and found that they are also known as "widow's thrill'!
Watching you draw and thinking of what we leave behind: this past week I spent time on a vacation to Taos, New Mexico with my family. My twin 17 yr old granddaughter and grandson were musing about times spent together when they were littles...they spoke of our drawing times, our reading times, our story telling times., our silly joking times..what we leave behind are those memories, those treasured moments of family connection, to me, that is a pretty fine legacy.
just this morning, my husband shared about understanding plant language. we also live in a forest, where deer, trees, birds 'n the river speak. but i never thought of our own drawings speaking back to us. the meaning of the lines we make. and then color, adding another layer. and the texture of cloth, another layer. and then how we can revisit something created long ago 'n pick up that ongoing thread of conversation!... x
I've always known that I write to figure out what I am thinking. It's a form of talking to myself...and I do that too. :) I think drawing is the same, and stretching the idea out, it is a way of noticing, of paying attention. Love that you share.
I talk to myself a lot, but actually it feels like I’m talking to my house, or the air that I’m breathing, or a creature. Yes, it’s a kind of explaining, a kindly way of saying this is what I’m doing now and this is why. It’s a sort of grounding. Thanks for bringing this up.
Yes, I talk to myself. It's a bit self-soothing I think... Your talking during the videos gives great insight into your thought process. It's perfect.
It helps me do that, even if nobody else is listening. I play it back to listen ...
Hi Jude, I've been following you since 2006 but your latest post requires a password.
This is my latest post, the wordpress site is now my private teaching site, the (not) forever zine... you might have missed my posts that explained.
I'm so sorry Jude, I clearly have missed those posts. Is it too late for me to backtrack?
I posted about it here awhile back...

Thank you so much for all you've given over the years. My very best wishes for the future but retirement income precludes my support.
I sent you an email

Well, I get it.

I started talking while I was drawing as a child.
A curious critter.

Gee, I'd like to draw that...
Please do!

Yes, it's lovely when these gentle times can be shard and then remembered. How our memories are journals...

It's sometimes a silent thread, once I catch a thought, it's in there somewhere, like a hidden path.
Yes. I talk to myself all the time. It definitely adds a sort of grounding to whatever I'm doing.
Watching you sketch, (or stitch), is so soothing.
What a beautiful woodland friend.
Well, I imagine you talking.
So many forest friends here.
Soul-o sits and listens to me, more good company.

yes, the writing or drawing give it form and then form again...

it connects you... extends the thought.
I talk to myself a lot. It's like narrating our existence.
yes, and for me, always interesting...
Loved hearing your thoughts and watching you sketch! 💙✍️
funny how seeing myself sketch teaches me. About me.
What will remain when we’re gone — that caught by ear.
I guess time will transform it...
So peaceful!
